If you’d walked into the Bathysphere studio over the last few weeks you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in the Brazillian rain forest. Bathysphere have been working with Ph.D student Serena Alexander to realise a version of her composition ‘Jungular’, an electro acoustic piece for voice and electronics.
Serena Alexander is a Ph.D student in composition at BEAST, the Birmingham Electro Acoustic Sound Theatre, focusing on multi-channel works. Serena recently completed a Masters in Music Technology at De Montfort University, Leicester, where through practice-led research she explored the combination of sung voice with electronics and multi speaker systems, focusing on extended vocal techniques and their mapping in space. She is currently involved in curating and presenting a concert series in Montréal, Canada based on her musicological research into Spatiosonics, the spatialisation of sounds using multi channel systems.
Jungular will be performed at The Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre, a comprehensive sound diffusion system for the performance of electro-acoustic music, incorporating over 100 loudspeakers.
The concert will take place at the CBSO Centre, Birmingham on the 9th of March at 8pm.
